Bill Welch has been playing guitar for 35 years and has loved every minute of it. He is currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Leavenworth and started teaching at the Tune Shop over a year ago.
He has taught guitar, on and off, for about 7 years. He played professionally from 1982-86 in Louisiana with several bands and then got a “real” job but kept playing acoustic gigs on the side. For the past five years he has been actively involved in the community theatre here in Leavenworth, Atchison, and Shawnee (Theatre in the Park) playing in their pit for The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, and as the music director for Li’l Abner.
He has also played for local Nashville recording artist, Joey Glenn, for the past 4 years. He joined Joey in Nashville for recording her first CD and at her CD release at Tootsie’s in the heart of Music Row in Nashville. He is currently starting up a new band, “The Time Travelers” with a couple local musicians.
Bill focuses his lessons on chords for whatever type of music the student enjoys but he also introduces notes and guitar theory. He has a recital every May where each student plays songs of their choice with a band on stage. According to Bill there’s nothing that compares to seeing a student learn that first song and finally play the F and Bb chord.
